Boosting Student Performance by an Entire Grade

Our students were among the first in Madrid to use AI learning technology as part of an international pilot study, and they have achieved exceptional results across all subjects, increasing their attainment by at least a grade on average. The most significant improvement in performance was in Biology (10.6%) and Chemistry (9.4%). Our school uses AI in the form of the Century Tech digital platform. Accessible from Year 3 to Year 11, Century Tech offers a tailored pathway that allows students to develop their knowledge of the English, Mathematics, Science, and Functional Skills syllabi by solidifying their learning. AI technology allows students to work on engaging exercises at school and at home, and subsequent activities are recommended based on demonstrated knowledge.

How Does AI Technology Increase Student Performance?

AI learning tools encourage students to develop their understanding to the highest possible level. Our teachers administer AI-assisted learning tasks to complement high-quality, in-class instruction and accelerate student progress through a personalised approach. Activities are allocated based on the requirements of the curriculum and current areas of study, and completion of tasks gives teachers insight into our students' ability level in a specific area of the syllabus.

AI learning programmes present a series of tasks that incrementally increase in difficulty. Children complete a course of fun tasks that give them a sense of accomplishment as they consolidate their prior learning and develop their knowledge at a pace that is right for them. As a student works their way through each activity, their performance is recorded and will inform the difficulty level of the subsequent exercises in the series. As a result, students are motivated as they demonstrate their knowledge and view their progress, yet they are also challenged as they are introduced to new concepts, which will prepare them for future lessons.

AI learning platforms encourage independent learning by allowing our students to review and extend their knowledge at home. While completing homework online, our students are able to flag any difficulties to their teachers in real-time, giving teaching staff access to precise, detailed information on student performance so that they can effectively plan future lessons and quickly bridge any gaps in understanding. AI learning platforms also give parents insight into their child's academic progress, allowing them to view the trajectory of learning achievements across each area of the curriculum.

At our school, we aim to alleviate unnecessary pressure on students and teachers by ensuring that revision helps students consolidate their knowledge following a personalised approach.

AI assessment tools have led to significant outcomes. In a recent survey, 85% of academic staff at our member schools found that AI tools were helpful in ‘diagnostic’ testing when used to assess students' strengths and determine areas for development. Using this data, teachers can create tailored exercises that pinpoint specific areas required for revision, helping students identify where to focus their efforts to gain the best possible results.

How Do AI Learning Platforms Work?

Our AI learning platforms present each subject as a separate course, and subjects are divided into topics. Children are introduced to a particular topic during lessons, and they can then delve deeper into topic material with online AI-assisted activities that cover a specific area of the syllabus, either at school or at home. Online activities are presented as fun and engaging mini-lessons that incorporate tutorials, audio recordings, and images.
